Peculiarity concerning high quality reeds
[ << zurück ]
If an accordion contains high quality reeds the playability respective temperature range is restricted. The reason for that phenomenon - that does not appear among accordions with lower quality reeds - is that there is a smaller air gap between free reed and frame plate.
Every skilful accordion player knows that an instrument which is cooled down is not playable: The reeds are clashing, they strike the frame plate while swinging or they even get stuck in the oscillation channel. The better the quality of the reeds the heavier this effect turns out to be. So the accordion has to be adjusted to the room temperature before it can be played.
